Gunstock Ranch

This is a 45-year-old, family-owned horse and cattle ranch where you can take 1.5-hour ATV trail riding tours that traverse scenic mountain trails ,WWII historic sites, a hidden cave used as a filming location for Hawaii 5-0, and Coral Crater. While a guided tour may not be your first choice for your ATV riding escapades, consider the upside of being able to maximize the lasting impact of your 4-wheeler riding by having everything planned in advance.

Kaena Point via Farrington Highway

Location: Farrington Hwy, Waialua, HI

Though relatively short at 5-miles long, the ATV trails here are very popular with the locals, following an old railroad bed and dirt road that ran along the westernmost point of Oahu. The main trail will take you to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve, a remote and scenic protected area known for its coastal sand dune habitat that’s home to many native plants and seabirds.

Kahuku Motocross Track

Location: 58-288 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI

The ATV and UTV trails in this off-road park weave through 400 acres of hilly tropical forest overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Expect mostly loose dirt with some hard pack and a few mudding trails, some rocky areas and a few steep hills. Great for all levels of ATV riding expertise.

Kuaokala Access Road

Location: North Shore, Waialua, HI

While not the easiest off-roading in Hawaii, this more than 16-mile trail has only light traffic so it’s well-suited for ATV riders and UTV riders that want to enjoy peace and quiet riding through picturesque forest lands. The trail can become extremely slippery and muddy during rain showers, and large mud bogs can form. This is an extremely beautiful area to visit anytime.

Kualoa Ranch ATV and UTV Tours (Jurassic Park)

Location: 49-560 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe (45 minutes from Waikiki)

This is another Hawaii ATV guided tour opportunity, and though you won’t see any Tyrannosaurus Rex lurking about, you will see some of the incredible locations from the Jurassic Park movies—also Jumanji, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla, 50 First Dates and the TV show Lost. The area covers over 4,000 acres, and is comprised of a nature preserve and an active cattle ranch with more than 600 cattle heads 120 horses, as well as 200 sheep. It has been on the Department of Interior’s National Register of Historic Places since the 1970s.

North Shore EcoTours

As guided ATV riding tours go, this one places a bigger emphasis on adventure and excitement that many others, taking you exploring over the unpredictable Oahu terrain. The trail spans nearly 19 miles of climbing, crawling and sloshing through muddy trails and over rugged mountain terrain. Expect unforgettable views of the Waiʻanae mountains, Haleʻiwa Town and the iconic North Shore coastline, along with plenty of rare, native plant life.

Poamoho Ridge

When you’re looking for exciting Hawaii ATV riding, this 7-mile out-and-back trail fills the bill, providing both picturesque views and challenging riding to satisfy even the most experienced 4-wheeler riders. The trail traverses a ridge through mostly native forest up to the Ko`olau Summit, and it provides a great view of the “pyramid mountain,” Pu’u Ohulehule. Plus, it’s not far from the highest peak on the island, Ka’ala. Consistent rain in the area can provide some ATV and UTV riding challenges.

Sand Island OHV Area

Location: right offshore from Honolulu Harbor on Oahu—accessible via the Sand Island Access Road

Unexpectedly located between the Honolulu Airport and the Honolulu arts district, Sand Island park is an arid, urban coastal area that is nirvana for those that enjoy off-roading in Oahu, with tracks built for both ATVs and bikes. It’s also one of the few state parks in Hawaii that allows ATV and UTV trail riding, offering over 641 acres of man-made island that protects Honolulu Harbor from seasonal high surf and storm surf.
